ZBrush Bat Creature Bust

ZBrush Bat Creature Bust

So after a little bit of watching Zbursh videos on Youtube I was inspired to do some sculpting myself. Now for those who do not know anything about 3d software you can find a little more info here at the Pixologic website. Pixologic sells my favorite 3d sculpting software Zbrush. A software geared towards artist and people who love to sculpt! If I had to describe the software I'd say it's like having an unlimited supply of clay inside of your computer.

If you will see fig.01 here you will see how I actually start a base mesh on most sculpts. Looking from left to right you can see how the object starts to form a basic sphere. Now most of the time when doing a sculpt it's good to have references handy. For this sculpt I pulled up some bat references and started looking at the noses on them. But as you can see going left to right I just pretty much pushed and pulled the mesh to get what you see on the right.

You can also view this video to see the full progression of the model.

When you watch this video you can see how the model slowly starts to form. This is a sped up video so it doesn't happen this fast. I wish though! It took a good 3 hours I'd say to get what you see on fig.02. A lot of sculpting is patience and getting the right proportions.

This is the final image I ended up for now. This image was post processed in Adobe Photoshop to give the colors to the final composition. I had wanted to do more on this sculpt but will probably take what I've learned from this model and move on to another one.

So yeah... A little bit of inspiration can go a long way. Sometimes that's all we need is a little bit of that spark to get us moving along. Hopefully soon I can get me a faster computer to actually do a full body in Zbrush. But for now I'll take what I can get and do what I can on this old laptop.
