I'm Looking thru a clear window in the back seat of a car at around the age
of 10. Clouds cover the sky with upside down waves of characters. Faces
distorted within castles of white fluff. Dragons reach across the sky to a
floating turtle. A magical world above my head. I want to capture these images
so that they stay with me forever.
Fast forward to now...
A blank sheet of paper..
Only now my sheet of paper is my open sky in front of me. The same way clouds
would show shapes and things of a different world when I was younger. I want to share this experience with
you. Why would I want to
share something as silly as a boy day dreaming at the sky? Look around the world you live in. Everything had to start somewhere.
Cell phones, Car designs, buildings, ect...
Even down to the
can of your soda with the vibrant pictures on it and text. Someone designed and created that logo and picture you see
today.
The people that
choose to dream are constantly creating what we see today. Much of what we see
around us started with a pencil to a piece of paper. A world without art would
be pretty boring. I love what I do because I create on a daily basis. We get so
caught up with our busy lives that we forget to stop and look within and around us. And when
we do stop it's to watch the busy pixels dance across the screen of your
television or I guess we can say smart phone now days. Watching the parade go by
instead of being apart of the parade.
If you catch your self tonight turning on the TV and putting
your mind on auto pilot. How about this little exercise instead. Grab a sheet
of paper and a pencil. Look at the sheet of paper. look at the tiny fabrics
that make up that piece of paper. Now look at the sheet of paper as a whole.
The same way we use to look at the clouds and see a world floating above us. Filled with
imagination and never ending. That’s what your paper is. The possibilities are
endless and it will only stop when you do. Some of you will see shapes in the
paper after looking a good while like
the puffy and living clouds. If you don’t see anything you need a jump start. Just start to scribble a
few lines on your paper. The more the better if your really having trouble.
Those lines are now your clouds. Draw the shapes that are now forming into
something. Outline those shapes and continue to look for more of those dragons
we saw in the clouds when we where kids.
