Photography Tips For Capturing Fireworks!

The 4th of July is always a good time to bring out the camera and capture fireworks blasting off in the sky. I was looking on twitter and the Canon feed was asking what are your best tips for capturing fireworks. Thinking a little about what gear I bring with me for the best shots of fireworks. And any tips I may have for taking pictures of fireworks. Hopefully these tips can help you capture some great images next time around there is a holiday with fireworks.

Tip #1
A basic tripod is 1st on my list. No matter what camera you are using I highly recommend using a tripod. If you don't have a tripod you can probably use a cushion or something level that wont move. Using a tripod will give you the clearest results when taking your photo.

Tip #2
Have the shutter set to long exposure. Now for those of you who are new to photography this means leaving the lens open so more light comes in longer. On my camera I set most of the photos up to be around 2 or 4 seconds of exposure. So having a long exposure also means keep the camera as still as possible when shooting.

Tip #3
My final tip is to have your camera set to be a few seconds delayed. Or have a remote to take the photo so you don't move the camera while pressing it. Most high end camera have this capability. I've always found no matter how still I try to be when taking a photo pressing the shutter it will always move just so slightly. It doesn't seem like much when taking the pictures but when you zoom in later on viewing on your computer you will see it.

Tip #4

My last tip for capturing fireworks is just have fun. I really enjoy taking photos of fireworks. Every shot you take will be different and unique. Hope these tips help you out in your photography!
