Tip #1 Audiobooks
Now I know your going, "Wait! I thought you said this was about reading, not audio!" For me sometimes it helps to just get your feet wet with a task if your having trouble and start to get overwhelmed with it. But AudioBooks are a great way to give your inner voice a direction. The narrator will give the characters of the book a certain tone, and this helps gives the story more texture. The other thing is it gives you a chance to relax and take the story in. And if your really having trouble getting into Audiobooks start out with a movie you have seen that is also a book. This will give you a foundation of what is being read to you, and with practice you will start to see the story form in your mind. A few places to find audiobooks online are sites like Audible, Amazon, and Overdrive. I really like overdrive because it allows you to go through your local public library or school to check out books! - I know right! Technology!
Tip #2 Draw your characters
Now this one kinda started out of habit. Now I know a lot of you are going,"But I don't know how to draw!" That is okay. These little doodles are mainly like stick figures with names. But if you do like to draw then that isn't a bad thing either.
This tip actually helps you from forgetting who the characters are and what the scene is. See Fig.01 for an example of how I do some of my doodles while listening to a story. This will help you get an idea of what I'm describing.

Tip #3 Build your library
Now it doesn't do you any good to try and read and have boring books in your library at home, this will only discourage you from reading. Try and find a few books on sale like stores like Half Price books, or better yet start a habit of going to library more often. If at any time a book doesn't interest you put it down and move on to the next one. There is nothing worse than reading a bad book and killing your fire of wanting to read. And yes just like a movie that sucks, same goes for books!
I hope these tips help you and get you inspired to reading more. But once you read that really good book you'll be hooked for life trying to find the next good book.
