DIGGING UP MY OLD ZBRUSH MODEL
The other day while looking on my hard-drive I came across an old model of E.T. 3d model I had started years ago. Now it wasn't a finished model but about 75% done. So what happened to the other 25% I could have just put in and finished. Don't know to be honest, and probably just got buried on my hard-drive to be dug up years later. Most of what was left was a few more details and texturing. I find that the fire kinda dies when working on models at times. So how do we keep that fire burning with out becoming tired of working on it and getting burnt out?
FUELING THE FLAME
For starters I had to dig in my computer to find this old model. Seeing that I was so close to getting this model done I opened it up in Zbrush. The model is based off of a character on a movie so I put on the Blu-ray E.T. The Extraterrestrial. Watching the movie gave me some inspiration and actually helped push me to finish this 3d model in the end. After giving the model some 3d textures I then put it in Marmoset Toolbag 3. This is a software I have come to really enjoy, actually makes rendering a really fun process.
MARMOSET TOOLBAG 3When I imported the model as an FBX from Zbrush I start to get the textures applied and adjusted as needed. Adjusting the glossiness of the skin on E.T. I actually made him a little more wet looking. I looked at the movie and just felt this small touch would give him a little more life. After all my textures are applied and adjusted I move towards lighting. Now lighting to me can be the biggest part of how your style and look comes off. Depending if your going for a blue cold look or orange warm look. Since Marmoset is a real-time renderer, it makes it a whole lot easier to actually make adjustments. The Finishing Touches
So as you can see from the renderings posted I've added a blue tint to the lights mixed with a touch of warmth. I've always liked using the orange and blue color look. Movie posters tend to use this color combination a lot. But just using Marmoset helped getting this model to be called done for now, that is unless I decide to put a scene for this character.
