3D Printing

It has been about a few months now using my 3d resin printer and so far I'm very happy with my purchase. Back in the day something like this would have cost 3 times the amount to purchase. But like I've said before 3d printers will be as common in the house as a microwave is. Figuring out the best methods and practice to getting a better 3d print has been fun and challenging. There are somethings to consider when doing 3d prints and how to get the best results. The prints that come out of the machine are very detailed and have really surprised me in the end. I've often found myself asking, "Why did I wait so long?" Having this 3d printer has actually sparked new life in doing more 3d models to see printed out. It has given me a new perspective on what I can now do on a computer and have physical version I can hold in my hands. The main hurdle was understanding how supports worked in the slicer program to get it printed without a failure.

 The Details

In Fig.2  you can see how small I am able to print on this machine. My Jawa figure still is able to hold on to the details that I had originally modeled on the computer! Only trouble now is finding a tiny paint brush to paint him. But over all my zbrush models are now coming to life and finding a place on my work desk. I am still trying to push the boundaries of what I can print. I have found if supports need to be put in a place that is hard to cut out it can be a bit of a problem.

What's Next?

For me I now am going back in my hard-drives and digging up on my folder older models and polishing them off so they can be printed. I still have yet to master painting the prints that I have made so far. It has been very fun learning and mastering 3d printing from my home. Given before I would send out these models for printing and have to run to the mail box daily to see if my print came in. Now I just run to the room with the printer late at night and see if the print is finished. A link to the 3d printer that I'm using can be found below.
