The Quest Browser

After upgrading from the Quest 2 to the Quest 3, I’ve been exploring new ways to use the headset beyond just gaming. The improved image clarity makes it much more comfortable to dive into other applications, and one area that’s really caught my attention is the browser. Over the past few years, the Quest browser has received significant updates, unlocking more possibilities for productivity and creativity.

Adding a keyboard

I purchased a keyboard to make typing easier while using the Quest’s browser. I ended up choosing the Logitech MX Keys S, which has been a significant upgrade. Previously, I used a smaller Logitech keyboard, but it didn’t quite fit my needs. What I like most about the MX Keys S is that it’s a full-sized keyboard with a number pad on the side, making it much more versatile. For me, this keyboard has been the biggest game-changer when using the Oculus for productivity.

Multiple Screens

My standard setup includes a laptop with an extra monitor attached, but what I love about using the Quest is the ability to have multiple screens open at once! The image below shows my standard setup, but with the Quest, you can detach screens and move them around much more easily than before. Recent updates have significantly enhanced the browser, making it much more suited for productivity

Spotify

I like that you can run a site like Spotify and get the feeling of being immersed in the space you’re working in. For example, if you move the screen to your right or left, the audio adjusts, making it sound as if the speakers are on that side of the room. It’s a small but thoughtful detail included in the browser. I haven’t tried other music services yet, but I imagine they would work the same way.

Final thoughts

The Quest has come a long way over the past few years, making significant improvements to create a well-rounded experience not just for gamers, but also for productivity. As I write this paragraph, it’s worth noting that everything was written while using the Quest. I know that when I look back on this blog post in a few years, I’ll be reminded of a time when this felt like something new and exciting.
